This 42 minute documentary explores the poignant life of Newark
, Ohio native
Elwood "Woody" English.
The 89 year old Woody  was interviewed at
his home in Newark in 1995
and gives an exciting account of his baseball
days on and off the field.

In 7th grade he was playing high school ball.  By 19, Woody was picked
up by the Toledo Mud Hens.
In 1927 he made it to the "bigs" when he was
picked by the Cubs for $50,000 and 3 players.  He made it to the World
Series three times: 1929, 1932 and 1935.  He played in the first All Star
Game (1933) when he was picked by fans for the shortstop position.

Woody remembers his old pal Hack Wilson (Hall of Fame 1979) the Cub
RBI King who still holds the record of 191 RBIs in one season.  Hear Woody
tell of the 1932 World Series with the Babe "calling his shot".   Woody was
covering third and tells what really happened.  See rare 1929 home movies
of a young Woody in Chicago and on Catalina Island.
